Have you ever considered your own glory? In our world of unlimited talk time, shared data packages, voice texting, calorie counting apps, meals and workouts to squeeze in, emails to answer, work deadlines… What does that even mean?
Today while I was driving to meet some friends and tour a new studio, I was listening to a recording from one of my instructors that really was eye opening. He talked about how failures often come from very subtle mental shifts. I think regardless of your beliefs most of us would agree there is a negative force in the world. Most religions, Christianity in particular, refer to this as the devil or the evil one. It’s often easy to say that something is an attack of Satan when a particular thing doesn’t go your way. We’ve probably all joked about it at one time or another. How about the phrase, “The devil made me do it.” Whether those situations are or aren’t a spiritual attack, I don’t know.
What caught me by surprise in today’s recording was when he talked about how things sound so close to the truth that we buy into the lie without a second thought. Things that kind of sound spiritual but really aren’t, and we blow right past them and take them as gospel when they really aren’t. He was talking about our glory and how that is often robbed. He gave examples of things we often hear, like “my job is to just get out of God’s way.” Or “People shouldn’t see me when I do something, they should only see God.” Yes there are elements of truth to those statements, but if God created us to have a glory and to reflect His glory, than we should both be recognized. A false humility may sound spiritual, but it is the accepting of a lie. It may actually be deflating and defeating you before you even get going. True humility now seems like it’s going to be even more of a fine line to walk, but at the same time this seems so refreshing to hear. Now, admittedly, I’m not through the whole recording yet, but give me your thoughts.

I never thought I’d be the type of person to blog. For the longest time I wondered if I had anything of relevance to say. I guess that remains to be seen. Maybe it’s age, maybe it’s certain environments I find myself in that don’t seem to allow me to get a word in or to freely speak my mind, but something’s made me want to start blogging. I’ve also been podcasting and hope to make a routine out of both of them.
So now my question: Since everyone is different, what do you do to be heard in this often crazy and fast paced world we live in? Do you yell and demand people’s attention? Do you make a scene, shock everyone, and then jump in during that brief momentary lull to grab the chance to say what you need to say? Do you post it on FaceBook? Are you the type that can stand up and know exactly what you’re going to say—think on your feet and shoot from the hip? Or are you more of a confidant, a quiet type of communicator with only a trusted few?
I am the quiet type of communicator. This has been and probably will always be the core of who I am and how I communicate. In other words, I’m not going to dominate your social gatherings. So contrary to my usual M.O., both my blog and podcasts will be where I open up to a larger audience and flesh out ideas a little deeper and expound on things more. So, come on in! I think we may all be surprised how deep the rabbit hole goes!
Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog. Feel free to leave comments.
